Crafty Holiday Ornaments

Salt Dough

Preheat to 300° F

Ingredients

1 cup salt
4 cups flour
1 1/2 cups water
(food coloring)
1 drinking straw to punch a hole for hanging (or make fancy holes within the shape)

Preheat to 300° F

Combine flour, salt, and water. Knead for 10 minutes.

Color dough with food coloring, if you wish.

Roll out on a lightly floured surface.

Cut shapes and make holes for hanging. Since these ornaments are weighty, maybe embrace the joy of smaller shapes?

Bake 30 minute, then cool.

Color with poster or tube paints.

Press in glitter and beads; pebbles, leaves, and interesting stuff you find on a walk; ribbons and leftover buttons; and so on.

To preserve, spray with clear polyurethane on both sides. If you’d rather have them fresh each year, omit the spray.

Add ribbon, string, or yarn hanging loops.
